Eagle Scout Projects

Eagle Scout Project Guidelines and Ideas

Please consider the following guidelines in relation to an Eagle Scout project with the City of Mount Holly Parks & Recreation Department:

The Eagle Scout must first contact the Parks & Recreation Department to discuss their idea.

Scout must plan to provide all planning, development, presentation, fundraising, and leadership for the project.

Idea will then be presented to the Parks & Recreation Commission by the Eagle Scout for their possible approval. The Scout will then need to get final approval from City Council. Depending on meeting schedules this part of the process could take between 2- 3 months. Do not plan on starting your project until all approvals have been met.

Below are some possible ideas that Parks & Recreation staff would like to see for Eagle Scout projects.

  1. Do a tree inventory at one of our parks. Tree inventory should include permanent signage listing different trees and number of each kind of tree.
  2. Build and install a wooden porch swing at one of our parks.
  3. Build tee box signage and install at River Street Park disc golf course. The permanent signage should include layout, distance, and par for all 9 holes.
  4. New tree installation at Woodlawn Park.
  5. Build and install interpretative signage along sections of the River Hawk greenway. Interpretative signage can be describing wildlife, trees, plants, or significant historical and cultural areas.
  6. Build covered dugouts for River Street Park ballfield. Permit/building code requirements will need to be followed.
  7. Build concrete permanent cornhole boards for one of our parks. Project should include gravel surfacing around boards.
  8. Install landscaping around park entrance signs.
  9. Upgrade group primitive campsites at Mountain Island Park at Mount Holly. Upgrades should include new timbers, pea gravel, and signage.
  10. Install steps on area of Lake Trail across from recycling center.
  11. Build protected enclosures for park trash cans.
  12. Limb up underbrush areas and perform general maintenance on invasive species
    near wetland areas.

If any of these projects do not interest you please contact local churches, civic groups or YMCA’s to see if they may have projects for you.
