The mission of the Solid Waste Division is to provide the Citizens of Mount Holly with an affordable refuse collection service that disposes of residential solid waste in a sanitary, timely and convenient manner.
On average the City of Mount Holly collects 4,273 tons of household garbage each year from 5,300 homes and businesses. The City currently operates with several trucks that deliver a combined monthly average of 69 loads of garbage to the Gaston County Landfill located in Dallas, North Carolina.
The City of Mount Holly's objective is to provide you, our citizens, with the best possible management of solid waste, our common problem.
The City of Mount Holly is pleased to announce that recycling services are now being provided by the City's Streets and Solid Waste Department employees. This comes on the heels of the City Council approving the City to provide in-house recycling collection and disposal during their November 2014 meeting.
The exemplary service that our employees provide for the current garbage pickup will be mirrored for recycling pick up. In January 2015, you will notice City forces picking up both your garbage and recycling.
Proposals were received from five vendors to provide recycling service, however, an in-house cost analysis was prepared simultaneously. The lowest vendor's cost was comparable to the City's cost. The one factor that we can control more than cost is the quality of service. Our quality of service, care and dedication to Mount Holly residents is unmatched.
Please remember to recycle all materials that are compatible. The more we recycle, the less we pay in landfill fees, ultimately saving the City money. Plus, it's great for the environment!
